Not Just an
Ordinary Love Story
Our story began with a daiquiri.
A girl from England and a boy from Vancouver Island met at their work staff party.
“Would you like a cocktail for the movie?”, Jess said as he pulled it out of his coat pocket and handed it to Rachel. Speechless by his rebellious side, Rachel needed to find out more. Wracking her brain for the entire film what this could have meant, Jess asked her for her number at the end of the night. “I would love to ask you more questions about the world of social media”, Jess asked. Almost five years later, they are still yet to have that conversation.
Forward a week, and they arrange a coffee to “discuss social media.” Little do they know, it’s an impromptu 13 hour date on Commerical Drive. It was a day of stopping for coffee, going into record shops, stopping for lunch, more record shops and finding a spot for dinner where Jess invited Rachel to try so many new things. After an hour or two, Rachel decided to rent an Evo car share, so they could listen to and share more songs together. The evening ended with beers at the end of the Drive.
On their second impromptu date, Jess taught Rachel how to roast a chicken, which they devoured with their bare hands. Rachel fell in love with Jess’s record wall. He fell in love with her British charm.
After 6 months of dating, they moved in together. With many long, romantic walks through Pacific Spirit Park (they would go specifically to see all the dogs), Rachel would ask Jess every day if they could get one of their own. Sweet, little (actually, a rather large, glorious tornado) pup Taylor joined them all the way from Texas and the three musketeers united.
We’ve spent many summers together in the Okanagan, gazing up at the stars, sipping on wine and howling along with the coyotes. We cannot wait to share our special day with you.
